My favourite staple food, high in protein and amazing taste
Red lentils are always a great option and are perfect for any lunch or dinner. And it is really not difficult and tastes delicious.
- Red (split) lentils
That’s all you need. Now all you got to do is mix the ingredients together and boil them.
- Boil the lentils in water (lentils should be completely covered with water), I usually stir them most of the time to avoid a burnt pot afterwards. You might have to add more water depending on the consistency you prefer. I like a thick mash-like consistency where you can’t see the individual lentils anymore. So I usually add water in between as like couscous or other beans red lentils just soak up the water.
- Add spices while the lentils boil. I like to use curry, paprika, turmeric (so healthy and adds a nice yellow colour), salt and pepper. My go-to spices always do the job. As always it is up to your taste how much you add of each, experiment with it.
- As soon as you have the desired consistency remove the pot from the stove and serve it.
Well done, you made red lentils. Serve it with your favourite vegetables, rice, tofu or whatever else you have at home.
Even though not the most photogenic food it tastes delicious!
